My sister, Coco and I came to live with Momma in
1993. A neighbor was giving us and our brother and sister away. The
sign said “free kittens” but Momma knew that we would not be entirely
free. I was very active so Momma took me. Coco was very quiet and
Momma was afraid that she would be sick. When Momma got ready to leave,
the little girl there said, “oh boy, only one kitten left”. “But, you
have three left”, Momma said, and then the little girl told her that the
black male had been promised to someone and they were going to keep the
calico so Momma took Coco, too. I am so glad she did, it was very nice
having my sister around in a new house. We played and played and ran
around like crazy people. We would sleep all together in what Momma
called a “pile of tuxedos.”
What is weird is now that we are older; we don’t
spend a lot of time together. We are not as close as Curly and Waldo
are, but we still are close.
We are very different. Coco is quiet and she has a
stocky little body. I am longer and thinner. Momma and Daddy both say
that when they pick me up, I am solid muscle.
When I was little, I used to jump over the couch,
now that I am an “old lady”, I don’t do as much couch jumping.
Bobbi used to pick on me and Coco and we had Basil
to protect us. When he died in 2000, I finally had decided that I had
had enough, so I don’t let her pick on me any more.
I like Lance but I don’t like it when he gets in my
face and sometimes I hiss at him.
Momma noticed that sometimes I had breathing
problems and she asked the vet and he said that I have kitty cat
asthma.
It finally got very bad in 2004; I was having an
attack almost every day. The vets put me on prednisone. Momma did not
like having me take a steroid, but she wants me to be able to breathe
easier.
I like my home and I like being an “Old Lady”.
I will miss my family but I am in a
better place with those of my family that went before me.
